Road Trip to Holy Ground

I’m road-tripping it today,

headed for Austin, Texas, for a prayer rally.  I’m praying Franklin Graham, Decision America Tour style.  And, I’m going in great expectation, expecting the Holy Spirit to be present and glorified on the capital steps.

We’ll be praying for our country to turn back to Him.  To repent.  To seek His face instead of all the other gods we pay homage to.

Did you catch that I am going, expecting God to be there?  Have you ever noticed how we go on retreats, conferences, or mission trips anticipating God to move in crazy awesome ways?  And guess what?  He usually does.

Any parallel between our level of expectation and our ability to see God actively moving?

As in, we go on these ventures, in faith, and we are rewarded for our faith.

And it is impossible to please God without faith.  Anyone who wants to come to him must believe God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.  Hebrews 11:6 NLT

Anyone who wants to come to God must come in faith, expecting to be rewarded.  (Here’s my disclaimer that you can’t use this for a license to ask God for whatever you want.  Doesn’t work that way.)

So, it’s biblical to come in expectation and see God work.

Here’s the scoop for your life: we are to come to God with an expectant attitude each time we open His Word or spend time in prayer.  Seriously.

Because if we’re not, then we should.

Makes you think about the way we view God in our everyday, mundane life, huh? We shouldn’t wait to see God only on mountaintop experiences.  God is everywhere.  He wants to reveal Himself to us.  He’s waiting to speak to us.

The God of the universe

That’s crazy y’all.  Why would we wait to expect miracles and greatness from Him only at Franklin Graham Decision America prayer rallies?  Why wouldn’t we want to meet with Him daily, looking forward to what He’s going to do?

Take today and change your heart.  I’m changing mine.  How will you approach the God of the universe differently today?

By the way, God showed up in a mighty way at the prayer rally.  It was such an uplifting time to be surrounded by believers from across the state, coming together, repenting, and asking God to bring us back to Him.

We didn’t focus on a finding the right candidate or political party to support.  But rather, we focused on placing our support and faith in Jesus Christ to run the country.  It sounds cliche, but it was anything but that.  As Christians, we are to vote and be active in the political arena.  If we step back, afraid to voice our opinions, our country will continue down the same sinful path it is currently on.

Read this sobering passage from Jeremiah 8:5-6

Then why do these people stay on their self-destructive path?
Why do the people of Jerusalem refuse to turn back?
They cling tightly to their lies
    and will not turn around.
I listen to their conversations
and don’t hear a word of truth.
Is anyone sorry for doing wrong?
Does anyone say, “What a terrible thing I have done”?
No! All are running down the path of sin
as swiftly as a horse galloping into battle!

Oi!  This is us.  This is America right now.  Will we turn around?

What can we do?  Get out there!  Vote.  Run for office even.  Be the light our dark country needs.  Be the one making our capital steps holy ground.

Some awesome prayer warriors; I’m on the far left.  My friend Jenny and I have been trying to figure out why we were crouching down for the picture?!?!

To God be the glory.  All my love.
